Due to the Medicare Rebate Freeze from 2014 to 2019, inflation and a reduction in the Bulk Billing Incentive this practice now receives 16% less for a bulk-billed standard consultation than in 2012. In that time our costs have increased faster than inflation. Rent has increased by 27%, our electricity has increased by 63%, telephones by 29% and all our other costs have risen.
Reluctantly, we have to radically change our billing structure.
From 20 January 2020, the following will apply:
All children under 16, all DVA Gold Card Holders, and all people 65 and over with a Pension or Health Care Card will continue to be bulk-billed.
All patients aged 16-64 with a Health Care Card or Pension Card, all students age 16 and over (High School, TAFE and University) with student ID and a valid Medicare Card and all people over 65 without a Health Care Card or Pension Card will be charged at a concessionary rate. They will have to pay and claim a Medicare rebate.
All others will be charge the full practice fee at every consultation.
International Students and visitors, and those with Overseas Student Health Cover or Overseas Visitor Health Cover will have to pay the full practice fee and claim a refund from their insurer. Dependent children under 16 of Allianz OSHC or OSVC card holders will be billed at the same rate as Australian children.
A fee will apply to help cover treatment room costs, bandages, etc. This will vary from $10 to $40 depending on the amount of material required.
Psychologist consultations will continue to be bulk-billed.
GP Management Plans, Team Care Arrangements, Health Assessments and Medication Reviews will be bulk-billed for all patients.
